Plug-In Altima Hybrid

I don't see any information here regarding the Nissan Altima Hybrid. Has anybody trid the CalCars conversion on a Altima Hybrid. I know that it is just a lease of the Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive system, so I would imagine that all the connections are the same. But you know what they say about assumptions. Anyhow I own a 2007 Altima Hybrid and was considering trying this conversion for a fun project. Am I just wasting my time because there will be too many differences, or are the similar enough that I should have no problems. I have a background in electrical engineering, and the documentation provided for the Prius conversion makes perfect sense, but I have yet to pull up any documentatio on the Altima to compare. I just wanted to see if it had been done before I spent too much time on my own.

Thanks for any advise.

Michael

To answer your question, I am not aware of anyone converting an Altima. If the power train is similar to that of the Toyotas then is should technically be possible. The trick will be finding a control interface capable of listening to the OEM computers and then controlling the add-on hardware.
Regarding my "low" mileage even with a PHEV conversion. That is primarily due to the "testbed" nature of my particular car, and the fact that my wife is the primary driver of the Prius and doesn't use the PHEV features. So the PHEV portion of the car does not get very much real world use. My best PriusBlue Mileage tank was on 7/20/2006 when I got to drive it for a few weeks while my wife was on vacation. I got 71.99mpg on that tank because my commute of ~30 miles is 10 miles longer than the ideal ~100mpg blended mode PHEV range. You will notice that during that tank I consumed 9.511 gallons of gas and 68.1 kWh of electricity, compared to our normal 0-10kWh of electric fuel consumption per tank. It really is a shame that I keep such good logs but can't let my wife utilize the PHEV features for her ideal 3 mile commutes. So she drives her 3 mile commutes in the stock mode, which is the worst possible use (short trips) of a stock Prius. --Rjf 22:15, 30 October 2008 (CDT)
