Revision as of 11:08, 28 October 2006
The CAN-View v1, v2, and v3 are MFD Integrated CAN Scanner for the 2nd Generation (2004-2005) Prius. A new more powerful version 4 is now available which uses an external touch screen so that it can be used in the 2006+ and other CAN enabled Hybrids. It is hoped that the new version will eventually work in vehicles such as the Camry, Highlander, RX 400h, GS 450h, and Ford Escape Hybrid! The CAN-View is used as the Prius PHEV User Interfaces in both the PriusPlus and PiPrius projects. The Official CAN-View Website is http://www.hybridinterfaces.ca. The CAN-View is not compatible with the Classic (2000-2003) Prius, go here for other potential solutions.

Additional accessories
These additional features are supported by the 2nd & 3rd version of the CAN-View, some require additional hardware.
- Field Programming
- The Silabs development kit C8051F310DK (available on the DigiKey website at US$99)
- Aftermarket Navigation System Interface (Pioneer's AVIC-88)
- Serial MFD touch screen coordinates are outputted from the CAN-View via a serial DB9 RS232 port.
- SCART Plugs and cables. [1]
- A $110 CC2RGB converter from http://www.threedoubleyou.com/otherconverters.htm
- outputs composite NTSC video via the CAN-View.
- A VAIS iPod interface might be desirable for audio.
- per [2], This may be another option for VGA to RGB + composite sync converter
- A $99 BOBIII device from http://www.decadenet.com outputs clean RGBs to the MFD via the CAN-View, it uses serial input to create color text.

- The CAN-View should not be confused with this CANview product (notice no dash in the name), which is a CAN to RS232 device similar to the CAN232 used by Attila Vass with his early My CAN Project.
