• CAN-View instructions need corrections, clarification

The CAN-View & EV Mode Button instructions were originally intended to be a quick list of the steps to install both at once, unifying both modifications. Anyone unfamiliar with what's involved should refer to the full instructions for both of those modifications full instructions with photos which are linked to from the appropriate area in the quick list. --Rjf 18:19, 12 March 2007 (CDT)

The PriusPlus-Electronic#CAN-View & EV Mode button instructions are a duplicate of PiPrius conversion process#CAN-View & EV Mode Button which I manually synchronize and if kept in both locations should become a template which both pages can simply include. --Rjf 18:19, 12 March 2007 (CDT)

• Routing of major cables

EV-Mode from dash to electronics tray

DB15 from CAN-View to electronics tray (by the way, its about 11 feet from drivers side to board in electronics tray, 10ft not enough!)

The PiPrius conversions have been using a 12 foot length of wire with pins soldered to both ends. It is then run from the headlamp switch through the dash with the OBD and Video cables and then cut near the HV ECU. The pin at the other end is then connected to the HV ECU and the wire to the switch spliced into it. Then the remainder of the wire is run down the door sill with the other cables to under the passenger seat... This however may require some rethinking for vehicles with navigation, the simplest solution is to add another 2 feet so it can continue on to under the drivers seat if navigation is present. Although if using the headlamp switch it may make just as much sense to route the wire along with the OBD cable down the drivers side door sill. --Rjf 18:19, 12 March 2007 (CDT)

I just used a standard $4 10ft DB15 shielded cable (sold as "2 row DB15 Joystick extension cable") and got it cheaper than I could have made it for. In retrospect, I should have used a 15 foot cable. I have been advised that using a non-shielded cable seems to cause interference on the MFD. --Cewert

The PiPrius conversions will route the EV Mode Button wire from the HV ECU pin to the CAN-View DB15 relay header, probably connecting to it with a bullet connector, similarly connecting the opposing side of RL1 (EV Mode trigger Relay) via a bullet connector to a ring terminal which is grounded near the CAN-View. --Rjf 18:19, 12 March 2007 (CDT)

The PriusPlus does route the EV mode cable to the trunk (the control board is responsible for the try-ev signal, not CAN-View, so I will note that.)

• CAN-View instructions for the V4 need to be added.

Likewise any such instructions are to become a template to be used in multiple places. Ideally the V4 instruction should be integrated into the existing V3 steps as the EV-Mode Button portions will be the same. I would imagine the V4 steps should be simple if not very similar to the V3 With Navigation steps. Discussion

Will a link to instructions on hybridinterfaces.ca suffice for the CAN-View v4 installation instructions? Perhaps we could direct people to the installation instructions and focus the documentation on instructions on how to do the EV-mode switch at the same time... - Cewert

What if we moved the combined CAN-View & EV-mode installation instructions to its own, seperate page, and then the PiPrius / PriusPlus pages (and any future methods) link to that page. That would allow the PriusPlus/PiPrius documentation to focus mainly on their specific differences and, I would think, make it easier for the person doing the conversion to see the differences if they already have CAN-View installed. I imagine a lot of people would also be looking to install both at the same time who aren't doing a PHEV conversion...

That may not be a bad idea... I'll look into getting it moved and linked to from all the various pages that should refer to it. --Rjf 12:56, 16 March 2007 (CDT)
