Original CalCars Method

Further development of the PriusPlus History or Prius PHEV#Original CalCars Method has been postponed to persue the Prius PHEV#Hybrid-Pack Method:

Per EAA-PHEV_Maillist:2006./3./40 we hope to have up to date PCB and Parts Lists by early April.

Changes from V1 to V2

As part of a Prius conversion to be done over the course of the Inaugural Maker Faire, April 22-23, we will be dramatically improving the documentation of the basic PbA PRIUS+ conversion process. We will also be publishing complete parts and supplier lists and designing prited circuit boards for the electronics, which we will find some way to get produced for sale afterwards. If you live close enough to get there, please join us to observe a real conversion in process.

Version 2f HV board schematic and Jerry's parts list additions. Ron added D11-12 to solve a bug I just fixed on his car. While he was at it, he changed D2 from a 1N4002 to a 1N4003 so that only 1N4003 of that series diodes is used. Ron found Q3 missing from the parts list, so It was added. We will have to solder D11 and D12 to their associated transistors when stuffing the boards, as the HV board is already in fab based on versions 2e -- our first rework.

Version 2c schematics are now available, some of the changes since Version 1 are:

  • Add the ability to switch back to the OEM battery pack at will (important for PbA battery packs, which are unreliable at low temperatures. Also handy during the testing process and perhaps to preseve a full charge for demonstration at a destination)
  • Improve compatability with CAN-View, which will now be the first and recommended Prius PHEV User Interfaces or BMS spoofing and EV-mode automation system (Ron is actively working with Norm, CAN-View's creator, to ensure effective automation algorithms)
  • Move all high voltage circuitry off the low power control board to the HV battery tap emulator board.
